Students Experience Technology from the Initial Idea to the Finished Product
During the Talent Days, students explored technical careers and gained hands-on insights into engineering design, metalworking, and the energy sector.
From September 14 to 18, the Talent Days were held in the Ried district for the second time this year. The initiative aims to introduce young people to the wide range of technical careers and give them practical insights into the working world of regional companies. As part of a tour, 18 students from PTS Ried visited the Scheuch Group in Aurolzmünster as well as Energie Ried GmbH, gaining exciting insights into a variety of occupational fields.
Hands-On Technology
Under the theme “From the Initial Idea to the Finished Product,” the young participants at Scheuch were able to follow the entire development process of a table lamp. They experienced firsthand how an initial idea is transformed step by step into a finished product.
The students learned about the fundamentals of engineering design, explored the use of modern 3D-printing technologies, and discovered how components are processed using laser cutting and bending. The individual parts were then assembled to create a table lamp
Through the hands-on activities, the students gained a realistic insight into apprenticeships in engineering design and metalworking. At the same time, the activities encouraged creativity, technical understanding, and practical skills. A particularly valuable aspect was the opportunity to experience every production step themselves and actively contribute to the process.
Learning together
The program was designed across companies and implemented jointly with Energie Ried. While Scheuch focused on product development and manufacturing, Energie Ried gave the students insights into the world of energy supply and the wide range of technical tasks required to ensure a safe and sustainable supply.
By combining visits to different companies, participants were able to experience the diversity of technical careers in the region and the many different career paths that technical training can open up.
“The Talent Days give young people the opportunity to experience and try out technology for themselves. When students accompany a product from engineering design through completion, they develop a completely different understanding of technical careers,” emphasizes Gerald Stockhammer, Head of Apprenticeship Training at the Scheuch Group. “We want to show how varied and future-oriented training paths in industry are and what exciting opportunities companies in the region have to offer.”
Inspiring enthusiasm for technology
The Talent Days are organized by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) and bring together schools and companies from the region. Through direct contact with skilled professionals and apprentices, young people receive valuable guidance for their future careers. At the same time, regional companies can spark early interest in technical careers and apprenticeship programs.
