Pupils experience technology first-hand
During the Talent Days, pupils explored the diversity of technical careers at several regional companies.
As part of the Talent Days in the Ried district, pupils gained practical insights into technical career fields in the region during the week of 23–27 March. On several tours, the young people visited up to three stops per day and got to know different sectors. Pupils from MMS St. Martin, PTS Ried and MS Waldzell were guests at the Scheuch Group, AGS and the Techno-Z innovation space InnRaum3. The initiative helped young people to find their bearings and learn about potential career paths.
A key to the future
The theme of this tour was the project title “Key to the Future”. The participants designed their own key on the computer and learnt the basics of 3D modelling. In doing so, they were able to bring their own ideas to life and develop a feel for technical design. At the subsequent stops, the workpiece was produced using 3D printing, fitted with an NFC chip and then programmed. Step by step, this resulted in a personalised product that bridges the analogue and digital worlds. As a 3D-printed workpiece in the hand and simultaneously a digital data carrier, the key can be read via a smartphone and store personal messages, images or links, for example.
From idea to application
The tour clearly demonstrated how creativity, technical understanding and digital skills are interlinked. Through the collaboration between the companies and InnRaum3, the young people gained a comprehensive insight into various areas of technology, production and programming. In total, the WKO organised several tours in the district involving different schools and companies.
“It is important to us to show young people at an early stage just how varied technical careers are and what opportunities an apprenticeship offers,” emphasise the representatives of the participating companies – Gerald Stockhammer, Training Manager at Scheuch Group; Wolfgang Stauber, Technical Manager at AGS; and Matthias Tindorf, Network Manager at InnRaum3. “When young people are able to design and implement something themselves, it often leads to a completely different understanding of technology and an interest in training in this field. The companies in the region offer a wealth of technical potential; all that is needed is to spark the curiosity of the younger generation.”
