When technology is more than a job
Joseph Zweimüller has been a fixed component of the team at Scheuch for many years. What started with an apprenticeship in 2006 led to his exciting technical and personal development, from an apprentice to Project Manager and then the Team Manager in the Steel construction department.
In an interview he explained his technical milestones, team spirit and his motivation to do a little bit better every day.
Can you tell us a little about your apprenticeship?
I started an apprenticeship as a technical draughtsman in 2006 and worked in steel construction, fan design and metal processing. I was one of the first to complete an "apprenticeship with Matura". In the last year of my apprenticeship, I was able to start intensive training on EN 1090 - including the static dimensioning of steel structures.
Which positions have you held at Scheuch?
After the apprenticeship I was a fixed component of steel construction - my home department. After an internal reorganisation, I became the representative of the team leader, was mainly responsible for large projects and introduced the new TeklaStructures software. I also programmed in-house tools and interfaces. After a period of time, I took over the team leader position permanently. In addition,
I was on the youth consultative council, works council and am currently the chairman of the works council.
What were some of your greatest professional successes?
A special highlight was the introduction of TeklaStructures 2019i. It did not only make our daily design work clearly more efficient, but for the first time also helped prepare complex projects for external assignment – a true milestone for our department. Technical successes include the design of our first KAT steel construction as well as the 310 tonne steel construction for a customer in France – a very complex project that was implemented perfectly at the construction site. These results show what is possible when know-how, precision and teamwork are combined.
Which projects or tasks make you particularly happy?
It makes me very happy to further develop processes that become noticeably more efficient – for example when a task can suddenly be completed in ten minutes, when before it took hours. I have a particularly positive memory of a project for a complete plant with a double, horizontal flat bag filter on a 20 metre high platform: a highly complicated steel construction that was completed smoothly thanks to a top team of experts – from the beginning of the project up to the final assembly. It was really enjoyable. There was also a very exciting project with a large customer from Germany: as a steel constructor, I implemented mechanical engineering tasks – using pure steel construction software. These types of challenges continue showing me how much more is possible when approaching work with passion and creativity.
What are your goals for the future?
I want to use technical possibilities to make us more efficient. Good designers are hard to find – therefore it is even more important to let them concentrate on the interesting tasks. And: I want us to enjoy our work. I want everyone to go home every evening with a good feeling and be proud of their work.
How do you relax when you are not working?
To relax, I like to play video games – in this way I can immerse myself completely in other worlds and forget my everyday life. At the same time I also need something creative so my thoughts can flow freely. Whether I have my camera in hand, or am doing some crafts or writing a children's book – these projects are my way of balancing the technical side of my life as they give me new energy.
