Structural Engineering with system and passion

Stefan Pumberger has been part of the company for almost ten years - and lives and breathes technology. His career at Scheuch took him from his master's thesis straight into everyday working life.

Today, he leads the team for Structural Engineering - with a clear commitment to quality, efficiency, and professional development. In an interview, he talks about challenges, leadership responsibility and his conviction that engineering is much more than just a job.

Can you tell us a little about your education?

I attended the HTL in Ried and then studied mechanical engineering at TU Wien. I had already written my master's thesis at Scheuch - and then started right there.

Which positions have you held at Scheuch?

I started as a design engineer, however I quickly moved on to calculation, design and statics. After a brief time in product development, I moved to the Steel Construction department. In 2021, Statics was finally spun off as its own department - which I took over as lead.

What have been your greatest professional successes so far?

Quite clearly: Taking over as team leader. That was a big step - and despite personnel changes, fluctuating workloads and complex projects, we have succeeded in making a strong team which is today stable and reliable. I am very proud of that.

Which tasks make you particularly happy?

The training of young engineers - passing on knowledge, the joint development of solutions. It is great to see how young colleagues grow and take responsibility.

What goals do you have for your further development?

In my field, you never stop learning - and that's how it should be. I want my department to continue to develop, drive recruitment forward and make our processes even more efficient. Increasing digitalisation and the use of AI are also topics that I would like to actively pursue.

What helps you balance your work life?

Time with my partner, lots of exercise - strength training, cycling, running - and in between, a good book or a trip on my motorbike.

Is there anything that is particularly close to your heart?

I try to pass on my enthusiasm for engineering to my team. For me, this profession is not only a job, but part of my identity. Solving problems using technical and scientific methods is the most enjoyable task for me. I want to pass this attitude on, especially to young people, among whom I sometimes find this enthusiasm lacking. I want to actively do something about this.
