A career with prospects in process engineering
With his solid technical education, broad project experience and a special sense for teamwork, Andreas Berger has been a valuable part of Scheuch for many years.
After his initial period in the company, he gathered valuable experience outside of it, before he came back in 2024 as the Head of Process Engineering. In the following interview, he explains how his work experience has shaped him, which projects in process engineering were particularly important for him and why he believes that professional development and good interaction are inseparable.
How long have you been at our company?
I have been a part of the company since 2007, with an interruption. After my initial period at Scheuch, I was able to gather experience outside the company that was very important for me both professionally and personally. This made me even more happy to be here again since 2024.
Can you tell us a little about your professional background?
My training began with an apprenticeship as an electrical installation engineer, which I successfully finished in 2005. As I have always been fascinated by connections, I decided to continue my education at night school at HTL Ried with focus on automation technology.
Later I expanded my expertise by studying at the FH Oberösterreich in the areas of process engineering and environmental engineering. This period was extremely important for me not only from a professional point of view, as it also taught me discipline and perseverance – which are characteristics that still influence me today.
Which positions did you have prior to your current role in the company?
My career at Scheuch began in the electrical engineering department, where my focus was initially on drawing wiring diagrams and constructing switch cabinets. Occasional involvement in commissioning operations gave me valuable insight into practise and the direct plant operation.
Later, I switched my focus toward project management and process engineering. I worked for many years at what was then Sparte Energy, where I was able to gain deep insight into numerous processes and interfaces.
In the meantime, I was working for a company in the chemical industry – it was an exciting time during which I expanded my professional horizons and gained new perspectives. Since 2024, I have been back at Scheuch and am responsible for the Process Engineering and Technology areas.
Which project influenced you the most professionally – both as regards success as well as challenges?
I was particularly influenced by a multi-year project on process air and flue-gas cleaning in the chemical industry – from the initial design up to commissioning. As a team, we were able to increase the availability of multiple production lines by around 10%, which permitted a significantly higher share of A-quality products to be produced. As a result, I enormously expanded my technical knowledge and truly appreciated working together as a team. At the same time, it was also my greatest challenge, as I had to coordinate many technical, organizational and interpersonal requirements. This period showed me how important patience, communication and willingness to compromise are.
Which projects or tasks do you enjoy most?
I am most happy when an initial idea turns into a functional system that brings added value – regardless if it is technical, organizational or in terms of cooperation. What is very important for me is a good team spirit, as I think this makes a very big difference.
How would you like to continue your professional development and what support do you receive from the company for this?
I would like to continue developing myself professionally, learn about new technologies and take a closer look at the big picture. It is important for me to contribute my previous experiences and learn something new. The company supports me in this with trust, responsibility, open dialog and the possibility to be proactive – and also with further training opportunities.
What do you do to relax when you're not working?
I like to be active to stay fit – not to compete, but to stay physically and mentally balanced. For me this includes topics such as nutrition, regeneration and personal energy, especially during challenging times.
As far as my private life goes, I am looking forward to my wedding in September – and a bit of downtime afterward.
