EMC FILTER WITH 10-M FILTER BAGS
After an extensive series of tests on a pilot plant at Scheuch’s in-house Technikum (Tech Center), the use of 8-meter long filter bags in large-scale cement plants was first approved in 2005 despite initial reservations within the cement industry.
Since then, this length of filter bag has become the industry standard and 36 EMC filtration plants have been equipped with these bags around the world. Positive findings based on actual measurements confirmed the thorough cleaning of the EMC filter across the overall length with the same low differential pressure level as with shorter filter bags.
10-m Filter Bags
Last year, Scheuch was also able in the course of additional and intensive R&D efforts to transfer the previous advantages of EMC technology to applications using 10-m filter bags and verify these advantages in actual practice. Based on convincing long-term testing using representative dust types and filter media for cement grinding plants and kiln dedusting systems, as well as comparative measurements using different bag lengths, it was possible to confirm a virtually identical filtration behavior as the basis for sufficient operating reliability.
First order: EMC filtration plant with 10m
Holcim (Deutschland) AG was the first customer to order from Scheuch an EMC filtration plant equipped with 10-m filter bags for the planned conversion of the kiln dedusting system at its plant in Lдgerdorf.
The main advantage associated with longer filter bag lengths is primarily the clearly lower investment costs, which are the result of the compact design and a weight reduction of up to 30% - compare EMC 6-meter : EMC 10-meter. In addition, applications using 10-meter filter bags require only half of the installation space compared to those using the 6-meter filter variant. In terms of the so-called secondary investment costs, this means an immense savings with respect to filter substructures or mill buildings, the foundation and access/inspection facilities for the filtration plant.
In filters equipped with 10-meter bags, the proportions of length to width to height are also more flow-optimized and assure a better distribution of dust across the overall length in comparison to filters using shorter bags.

Size comparison of an EMC filtration plant dimensioned for 1,000,000 Am³/h, equipped with 6-m and 10-m filter bags. The use of EMC 10 m is already of interest starting at volume flows of 500,000 Am³/h and can cover a range of up to 3,000,000 Am³/h.
Conversion of electrostatic precipitators to bag filtration systems
Especially when converting electrostatic precipitators to bag filtration systems, the existing casing volume can thus be used to optimal advantage. The possibility of installing a significantly larger filter surface area makes it possible to create reserves for future increases in performance (larger volume flows) in a cost-effective way. The same is true for existing filtration systems with bag lengths of 6 or 8 meters, especially when space is limited and the overall length cannot be extended.
More than 150 installations of Scheuch’s EMC technology around the world impressively confirm the advantages and superiority of this technology.
