AIR-TO-AIR-COOLING SYSTEM

The air-to-air-cooling system

Air-to-air heat exchangers are used to cool process gases; the transfer of heat between the exhaust gas and the cooling air takes place in a bundled tubular heat exchanger. In this design, the process gas flows through the cooling pipes and is cooled from more than 400° to about 120° Celsius by outside air flowing around the pipes. Axial blowers controlled by frequency transformers are used as cooling fans, which makes it possible to keep constant the exit temperature of the exhaust gas. Depending on the process demands associated with the exhaust gas that requires cooling (cooling speed, the need to avoid undershooting the dew point, etc.), heat exchangers of this kind can have multi-stage designs on both the process gas and cooling side.
